6 Sleep Innovations We’re Truly Thankful For

Thanksgiving is around the corner and we’re feeling pretty thankful here at Nanit. Not just for our friends, family and customers. But for all the good sleep our families have gotten this past year (yes, we’re more than a little obsessed with sleep!).

Good sleep isn’t the result of just one thing, especially for infants. There’s a lot of little things that help your baby get those zzz’s. So in the spirit of Thanksgiving, we decided to give a shout-out to some of the innovations we’re most thankful for when it comes to babies getting sleep.

Here are the 6 sleep inventions we’re thanking our lucky stars for this Turkey Day…

  1. Blackout shades

In the recipe for good sleep, darkness is ingredient number one. After all, it cues the body’s release of melatonin. That’s why we’re so thankful for blackout shades that can turn even the most peppy, sunlit room into a dark sleep haven. (Shout-out to black garbage bags, too – tape them up on the windows to block out light when you’re in a pinch!)

  1. White noise

Dear, sweet, wonderful white noise. What would we do without you? Thanks to white noise machines – like the one built into Nanit’s camera – little ones can get their beauty rest even if your neighbor’s nightly viewing of Wheel of Fortune gets out of hand. White noise is also one of those positive sleep associations that you can add to the bedtime routine. Just switching it on can let your baby know it’s sleepy time.

  1. Overnight diapers

We seriously wish we could give the brilliant inventor of overnight diapers a big hug. These super absorbent diapers make it possible for both you and your baby to sleep through the night without the need for a 1 a.m. diaper change.

  1. Footed pajamas

There’s a reason those footed pajamas from your childhood still haven’t gone out of style – they’re just so useful. Perfect for cooler nights, but lightweight enough to use through the seasons. And did we mention how completely cute babies look in ‘em?

  1. Pacifiers

Whether you call it a paci or a binky, the pacifier is definitely on our “can’t live without!” list. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using a pacifier at naptime and bedtime, which “helps to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).” Added bonus? Pacifiers support healthy sleep habits – babies can use them at night to soothe themselves back to sleep.

  1. Nanit

Okay, okay, we’re tooting our own horn a bit here! But what can we say? We’re truly thankful for Nanit, which helps everyone in the family get better sleep thanks to its genius computer vision and machine learning technology.
